Anthony Boyd was the eighth person executed by nitrogen gas since Alabama began using the method last year. His execution came over the strenuous objection of three liberal Supreme Court justices.

Boyd was found guilty of the 1993 murder of Mr. Huguley, who was burned alive over a $200 (£150) drug debt in Talladega County, Alabama. Huguley's body was discovered in a recreational area in a rural part of the county in August of that year.
Boyd’s spiritual adviser, Rev. Jeff Hood, who was in the chamber with him, described the execution as “torture.”
