Bangladesh are standing firm on their decision to not travel to India for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had requested ICC to change their venue to Sri Lanka for the tournament, citing security concerns. ICC dismissed those concerns and issued an ultimatum, asking Bangladesh to participate or be replaced.
Bangladesh Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul slammed the ICC for denying “justice” after refusing the demand to shift matches to Sri Lanka.
The last, therefore, has not been heard on the vexed issue of Bangladesh as the ICC will now go ahead with formally naming Scotland as a replacement team. The build-up to the World T20, with Bangladesh scheduled to travel to India only three days from now on 26 January for warm-up games, has been the biggest casualty in the bargain.
ICC on Wednesday confirmed the T20 World Cup 2026 will proceed as scheduled, with Bangladesh's matches to be played in India.
With a 24-hour deadline looming, Bangladesh's cricket situation intensifies as government officials meet players to address their security concerns.
