BigXthaPlug’s attorney pledged to fight misdemeanor gun and drug charges after the rapper’s album release party was abruptly canceled following his arrest in Dallas.

An officer asked the driver, identified as Landum, if he had a firearm. BigXthaPlug told officers he did and detailed where to find it in the truck. Police said a criminal database flagged Landum as connected to a gang in Arlington, which meant he was not legally allowed to possess a gun.

According to Dallas County Jail records viewed by PEOPLE, the rapper born Xavier Landum, 27, was arrested on Friday, Aug. 22 and booked on charges of marijuana possession (less than two ounces) and unlawful possession of a firearm at 2:20 a.m., following the release of his highly anticipated studio album I Hope You're Happy.
