In a move that didn’t come as a surprise, the Detroit Lions parted ways with former offensive coordinator John Morton not long after their 2025 campaign officially came to a close after failing to earn a postseason spot.

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said sorting out his coaching staff is the first offseason objective for he and the Lions.

However, inconsistencies along the offensive line and defensive injuries led to a dismal stretch run, including three straight December losses that eliminated the Lions from the playoffs.

The Detroit Lions ranked among the most injured teams in the NFL this season for the second straight year, but Lions coach Dan Campbell defended his team’s training staff in his end-of-season news conference Monday, Jan. 4, and chalked some of his team’s poor health up to bad luck.
