"Good Night, and Good Luck" originated as a 2005 film starring George Clooney, David Strathairn, Patricia Clarkson and Robert Downey Jr. The film tells the story of broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow's mission to challenge Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Decades before CNN agreed to a live telecast of Broadway’s Good Night, and Good Luck on June 7, George Clooney had originally envisioned it as a special for CBS, not a movie for theaters and a play on Broadway.

Production company 2929 Entertainment, owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban, Jeff Skoll’s Participant Media and Clooney are financing the effort.
