The Boston Red Sox will be without their starting third baseman against the Los Angeles Dodgers after Marcelo Mayer got put on the IL.

For the time being it appears that the Red Sox are going to lean heavily on Ceddanne Rafaela to man the position in Mayer’s absence. The Red Sox also called up David Hamilton to provide another option at second, but it’s clear that the majority of the playing time will go to Rafaela.

Boston Red Sox rookie Marcelo Mayer was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday, retroactive to Thursday, as the infielder suffered a right wrist sprain.
