Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, the Indian equity benchmark indices, opened in red on Thursday as US President Donald Trump’s move to double tariffs on India to 50% weighed on sentiment.

Markets tumbled following Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Indian exports, with the BSE Sensex falling 335.71 points.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,594 level, a discount of nearly 40 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.
