A Michigan police chief says church staff fatally shot a man armed with a handgun and a long gun, averting a potential mass shooting at a church west of Detroit.

A man who opened fire outside a Wayne, Mich., church filled with worshippers on Sunday was struck by a vehicle and then fatally shot by security staff who averted a potential mass shooting, police said.
