Mariah Samuels was shot and killed on the morning of September 14 after filing an order for protection and seeking help from police.
Minneapolis police are at the scene of a homicide in the city’s Seward neighborhood. Officers responded to an area near East 26th Street and 32nd Avenue South Thursday morning. A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer saw officers going through a car in a nearby parking lot, where the victim appears to have been found.
Now, Minneapolis' Auditor Robert Timmerman is saying the Minneapolis Police Department is not cooperating with the city's own audit into the shooting. "It is incredibly frustrating that we are not getting participation from MPD," Timmerman said during Monday's audit committee meeting.
Police on Thursday released the identity of the man who was shot and wounded after a dispute inside a downtown Minneapolis strip club spilled into the street. Roy Milton Burns, 48, of St. Paul, was shot at about 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 5, police said.
James Duane Ortley has been charged with one count of trying to escape from custody, four counts of fourth-degree assault on law enforcement, and one count of first-degree property damage.
On Wednesday, members of the Minneapolis City Council's Health and Safety Committee said they expected to hear an update from the city's police department regarding the internal review of actions leading up to Davis Morturi's shooting last October.
