Fire crews extinguished a large blaze at a commercial building in Winnetka on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out around 5:10 a.m. on the 20000 block of Sherman Way. By 6:30 a.m., more than 120 firefighters were able to put out the bulk of the fire in the back of the building.
The blaze was threatening a neighboring four-story apartment building where dozens of residents were evacuated.
The building, dating back to 1905, acted as the centerpiece of the historic Hollywood Center Motel property. Its connection to Hollywood runs deep: The home appeared in films like L.A. Confidential and The Rockford Files. It was even frequented by rock star Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse. But now, the building is gone for good.
Firefighters said that flames from the boarded-up business were threatening the four-story apartment building next door, prompting evacuations for residents.

Fire damages two-story Winnetka office building
Some units in a two-story building in Winnetka were damaged in a Tuesday morning fire. The fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. on the 20000 block of W. Sherman Way. About 10 units were red-tagged,
LAFD extinguished a house fire in Woodland Hills with no reported injuries. The fire began at 1:24 PM and was contained in 24 minutes by first responders.
Crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department extinguished a large structure fire in Winnetka. Firefighters were able to stop flames from spreading to a next-door apartment building.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the structure fire began at 5:42 a.m. and required 70 firefighters to extinguish. Battalion Chief Tim Ramirez said in a clip shared on YouTube that there was “heavy fire” on two floors of the motel’s central house, nicknamed “El Nido,” which dates back to the early 1900s.
