Ezequiel Tovar hit a three-run homer to break a fifth-inning tie and the Colorado Rockies secured their first home series victory of the season with a 10-6 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night.

He went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and just one walk. He allowed just two hits after the second inning, induced two crucial double plays, and threw 78 pitches. It was the fourth time a Rockies starter has gone seven innings this season and the first since Germán Márquez on May 22.

Colorado reliever Tyler Kinley was able to extinguish the fire. He struck out the three-time All-Star, and newly minted All-Star Hunter Goodman gave the Rockies all the insurance they needed with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning.

The Twins did manage to get the scoring started in this one, with Ryan Jeffers, Kody Clemens, and Carlos Correa getting three extra-base hits in a row to plate the first two runs of the game. A Matt Wallner single put the Twins up 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

The Rockies talked a good game before hosting the Twins Friday night at Coors Field. Phrases like “fresh start” and “new beginning” were bandied about.
