A tornado warning for parts of South Jersey expired as heavy storms moved through the Delaware Valley, leading to severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for the entire CBS News Philadelphia viewing area.

Acting New Jersey Gov. Tahesha Way declared that a State of Emergency will go into effect in preparation for potential flash flooding, severe storms, intense rainfall and damaging wind gusts.

The New York City area and New Jersey declared states of emergency Thursday as heavy rain with the potential for flash floods approached the region. Weather is expected to dump several inches of rain in the New York-New Jersey areas as residents make their evening commutes home.
