Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered DPS tactical strike teams to assist the Trump administration's efforts to go after illegal immigrants inside the state, as Austin law enforcement officials vow to not comply.

Immigration operations were taking place all over the country less than a week after President Trump was sworn in.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are carrying out operations across the state, and that does include in Houston, and also in Galveston.

DALLAS — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 84 people across North Texas on Sunday during immigration enforcement operations, the agency confirmed.

Dozens of people were arrested in North Texas alone as part of Donald Trump’s crackdown on people who may be in the country without legal status.

President Donald Trump has made immigration enforcement a top priority for his administration and has supported Abbott’s immigration efforts. Texas repeatedly sued the Biden administration, targeting many of its immigration policies, some of which provided migrants legal pathways to legally enter and stay in the U.S.

ICE agents began targeted operations across Texas on Sunday, following President Donald Trump's campaign promise to crack down on people who may be in the country without legal status.

The actions come as President Donald Trump and his administration have begun cracking down on illegal immigration and laying the groundwork for rapid deportations.

The state has vowed to assist the president in his efforts to revamp immigration. But Texas' biggest cities and school districts are more reluctant to help.

NORTH TEXAS — U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement arrested 84 people in North Texas on Sunday, the agency said. Arrests were made in a number of areas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Irving and parts of Collin County. The agency said it is part of an ongoing effort.

The American-Statesman reached out to immigration advocates and attorneys to ask what advice they are giving to immigrants without legal status.

Advocates worry that rapidly shifting federal and state immigration initiatives will prompt more city police to funnel migrants without criminal records to federal agents.
