Police reported that, at around 11:35 p.m. on August 20, Hinds died riding a Harley Davidson. The driver of a BMW SUV neglected to yield making a turn at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Boulevard and collided with the motorcycle.

William Brent Hinds, 51, co-founder and former member of Atlanta heavy metal band Mastodon, was killed in a motorcycle crash late Wednesday.

"We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief," Hinds' former bandmates wrote in an emotional tribute to the late heavy metal rocker.
