ESPN’s College GameDay was electric Saturday with Pat McAfee broadcasting live from Nashville and Nick Saban was unexpectedly in the mix. Saban surprised many when he publicly jumped on the “Vanderbilt bandwagon.
Vanderbilt student Tyler Hwang won $500,000 on ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday morning by making a 33-yard field goal during host Pat McAfee’s weekly kicking contest. McAfee also donated another $250,000 to charity, bringing the successful kick’s total to $750,000.
College GameDay ’s visit to Nashville brought plenty of excitement to Vanderbilt ’s campus — but it wasn’t just Pat McAfee’s signature field goal contest that had fans buzzing. During a commercial break in the live broadcast, two spectators saw an opening and decided to make the most of it.
A sophomore at Vanderbilt double majoring in chemical engineering and economics, Hwang said he played soccer until his senior year at Dover-Sherborn High in Massachusetts, then joined the football team where he was a kicker and sometimes a slot receiver.
The Nashville staple will serve a tower of pancakes, Goolsby sausages, country fried steak, candied bacon, and more to the anchors during the show.
