BIRMINGHAM, England (Reuters) -England stumbled to 77-3 to trail India by 510 runs on day two of the second test after skipper Shubman Gill scored a record-breaking 269 and their seamers struck early to put the tourists in a commanding position at Edgbaston on Thursday.

Shubman Gill's 269-run knock is the third-highest score by any touring captain against England in men's Test cricket, behind only Australia's Bob Simpson (311) and South Africa's Graeme Smith (277)

Although the deficit for England currently looks enormous, they have won all three matches that they have conceded 500 or more runs in an innings during the Stokes/McCullum regime.
