Cup champion Florida Panthers and defenseman Aaron Ekblad agreed to an eight-year extension carrying a $6.1 million average-annual value, sources told ESPN Monday, confirming reports, a deal that keeps the veteran from becoming a free agent.

The Florida Panthers entered the off-season with another Stanley Cup championship and three big-name players on expiring contracts: Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad and Brad Marchand.

Panthers general manager Bill Zito, who previously said the Jones trade wouldn't stop the club from keeping "either one or both" defensemen, will now look to head into the 2025-26 season with Ekblad and Jones anchoring the team's top two pairings.
