There’s a new top dog at Westminster. And Monty the giant schnauzer, who made history with his Best in Show win at the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Feb. 11, knew it when it happened.

Monty the giant schnauzer recently won the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show - and our hearts. Here are some fun facts about this adorable pup you may not know.

Monty's competition included a bichon frisé called Neal, a Skye terrier named Archer, a whippet and repeat runner-up known as Bourbon and a shih tzu called Comet who's been a finalist before.

Monty, a Giant Schnauzer residing in Chaplin, Connecticut, won best in show at the 149th Annual Westminster Dog Show in New York City on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Among the Westminster Dog Show finalists were a bichon frisé, a shih tzu, a whippet, a German shepherd, an English springer spaniel, a giant schnauzer and a Skye terrier.

The spirited schnauzer bested six other finalists to become the first of his breed tapped as Westminster’s best in show, the most prestigious prize in the U.S. dog show world. The spirited schnauzer won the huge American Kennel Club championship in December, and he’d been a Westminster twice before.

Monty, a giant schnauzer, was named Best in Show at the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday night in New York City.

Five-year-old Monty beat his fellow six group winners to be awarded the overall accolade, beating out a whippet, Bourbon, who became Reserve Best in Show for a second time, German Shepherd Mercedes, English springer spaniel Freddie, bichon frisé Neal, Skye terrier Archer, and shih tzu Comet.

The Westminster Kennel Club show is considered the most prestigious dog show in the U.S. Monty, this year's top dog, made the finals for the third year in a row and won the American Kennel Club’s big show in December.
