Oregon fire experts have finalized their redo of state maps showing wildfire hazard areas, showing that about 1,600 properties are in high-risk spots that could be subject to new building and landscape codes.

In Oregon, the new building and so-called defensible space codes will affect only about 106,000 tax lots. Oregon homeowners who live in certain high-risk wildfire areas defined by the state must now meet new building codes and reduce vegetation around their homes under new “wildfire hazard maps” unveiled Tuesday.

Final maps were released Tuesday by the Oregon Department of Forestry showing the wildfire hazard for every property in the state.

Oregonians who live in the state’s highest-risk wildfire zones will be subject to stricter building codes and requirements.
