Thankfully, neither Silvestre nor many of the nearly 200 vendors were inside Plaza Latina when a fire started around 9:30 Friday morning. The only two people who were on-site made it out safely.

Fire damaged part of the Plaza Latina Bazaar on Harry Hines Boulevard in Northwest Dallas on Friday morning. More than 500 animals were killed due to smoke inhalation, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
