Eighty-one years ago on Friday, allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, to try and liberate western Europe from Germany during World War II.

The aircraft, originally part of the 101st Airborne Division's invasion of Normandy in 1944, was saved from being scrapped and restored by the Commemorative Air Force's Central Texas Wing.
