ANAHEIM -- Lukas Dostal made 24 saves, and the Anaheim Ducks ended a nine-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory against the Dallas Stars at Honda Center on Tuesday.
The Ducks were the darlings of the NHL in the first couple of months of the season. From a young and exciting team that was putting up big numbers and getting great goaltending from Lukas Dostal. At one point, Anaheim was contending for the top spot in the Pacific Division.
On top of that, the team's defensive issues have finally come home to roost. The Ducks bleed expected goals against at the fifth-highest rate in the NHL. While the offense is able to make up for a lot of that, Anaheim's defense gives up too much for the team to hang around near the top of the standings.

Anaheim was also smitten on their Swede. The Ducks picked Carlsson second overall in the 2023 draft, and he's been their second leading scorer over the last two-plus seasons, with 38 goals and 89 points in 200 games. That's solid production for a young center still developing his two-way game and learning to balance life as an NHL player.
The Dallas Stars will be a little shorthanded on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks. Just before the game, the team announced top defenseman Miro Heiskanen will be out “due to a personal family matter.” Veteran defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin is stepping in to replace Heiskanen for the time being.
