A total "blood moon" lunar eclipse peaked overnight and lit up skies across the Pittsburgh area and throughout western Pennsylvania.The total eclipse began Friday at 2:26 a.m. and lasted for nearly an hour.

According to NASA, those in the whole of the Western Hemisphere — Pennsylvanians included — will be able to see the moon turn red during a lunar eclipse starting at around 11:57 p.m. (ET) today, March 13, until 6 a.m. on March 14.
