A former Team GB Paralympian has broken the record for running a marathon on crutches in the fastest time. David Wetherill, who played table tennis at three Paralympic Games, has used crutches every day since he was 10 due to having a bone condition called multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED).

Sunday's London Marathon set a world record for the number of finishers, eclipsing the previous mark of 55,646 in New York last year, organisers said.

Assefa finished the race, with no male runners on the course, in 2:15:50, pulling away from Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei.
