At least 24 people have died after heavy rain pounded Kerr County, Texas, early Friday, leading to "catastrophic" flooding, the sheriff said.

Vehicles, campers and homes were swept away along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, Texas, as storms caused a flash flood emergency in the area. A flash flood emergency was also declared in San Angelo further north of Texas Hill Country.

Overnight storms in South Texas have left several people dead, according to authorities, as rainfall is expected to continue through the weekend. NBC News' George Solis reports that the Guadalupe River rose almost two dozen feet in three hours.
