The Boston Red Sox made their first move ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, bringing veteran pitcher Steven Matz.

Four years ago the Red Sox pursued Steven Matz as a free agent, and while the lefty ultimately signed with the Cardinals, he never forgot about the good things he heard about Boston.

Matz should throw a lot of curveballs and sinkers. He has used his sinker 59.4% of the time this season. He has thrown it more than 50% in every season except 2022 when he used it 48.5%. He’s in the 89th percentile in fastball run value.
