The fire is in a derelict building containing a large amount of waste and firefighters had significant issues accessing the seat of the fire safely. A large smoke plume is affecting the local area and we strongly recommend that residents in the nearby area keep windows and doors shut and adhere to the safety cordons we have in pl

We call this 'The Stinger.' Grrr. ☠️ This specially developed fire engine holds 1,500 litres of water, has infra-red cameras, a piercing spike and can reach the dizzy heights of 15 metres. It resides at Blackburn Fire Station, however, yesterday its equally burly younger sibling joined our fleet at Skelmersdale Fire Station and we want YOU to give it a name! The fire engine has been made in Austria and made specific to Lancashire and as well as looking pretty darn beasty it reduces fire spread,

One year on from Winter Hill we'd like to make sure you know how much of an impact wildfires have on our environment. Peat in the ground acts as a carbon store, is a great habitat for wildlife and has a role in water management. We spent 41 days tackling the wildfire last year and sadly the peat was destroyed, an impact we will see in years to come as it takes thousands of years to form. Take a look at our video on how to prevent wildfires from happening :) | Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (

Our fire cadets are treated as young firefighters. The fire cadet programme provides young people with an insight into a uniformed service with basic firefighting skills being learnt alongside personal and social skills. Today Skelmersdale fire cadets learned what it would be like if a chip pan was to set on fire in the home. If you know anyone aged 13-17 who may be interesting in joining a fire cadet programme in Lancashire we have spaces at Burnley, Preston, South Shore and Darwen. | Lancashir

Sunlight can be a surprising fire hazard when it reflects off objects like mirrors, perfume bottles, or ornaments, concentrating the sun’s rays and potentially starting a fire. This is particularly dangerous in rooms with southern-facing windows, where the sun’s rays are strongest. To keep your home safe, follow these simple steps: • Store reflective items, such as mirrors, snow globes, and glass ornaments, away from windows, especially those facing south. • Consider covering them when not in us
